Quality Point Deficit

Quality Point Deficit, or QPD, is an absolute measure of what is necessary to bring a student’s cumulative GPA required up to be in good academic standing with the institution. The minimum GPA to be considered in good academic standing as an undergraduate student at Keuka College is 2.0. Students in undergraduate programs with higher GPA thresholds and graduate programs should view their program’s handbook and consult with their advisor. Grades of P/F, S/U, IN, and W are not included in a QPD calculation. The formula for calculating the quality point deficit is the following: Quality Point Deficit = (Cumulative GPA Hours Attempted x 2.0) – Cumulative Quality Points.

Students who have a quality point deficit which puts them at risk of not returning to good academic standing should discuss their situation with their academic advisor. Generally, students who want to improve their Quality Point Deficit quickly should retake courses that they have previously failed to receive a better grade.

Quality Point Deficit is used in Keuka College's Academic Review processes. Students who are not in good academic standing are at risk of losing financial aid eligibility. Students who have high quality point deficits should consult with their academic advisor, the Office of Records and Registration, and/or the Provost's Office to make a plan to return to good academic standing.
